The portrayal of wo men in The Great GatsbySince the concept of company exists, women do been classifieddifferently from men. Women have always been the weak sex, which ismeant to heed and please men. This has changed and now there is arelative equality mingled with sexes, but surprisingly, the image of womenonly started to change signifi targettly in the ultimately 100 years, and even soin this century discrimination still takes place. In the 1930ssociety had still a very primitive view of women, even if they hadacquired rights such as the right to vote, this had just occurred inthe 1920s. Most men still had the thought that women should only stayhome and raise children, that they should non be involved in politics,and their ideas were not valuable.From the start of the book we tummy see that women in the book areportrayed, as nave, brainless and that they can be easilymanipulated. We first notice this with Daisys description, and thenMyrtles, Jordan is engaging of an exce ption, but she doesnt have much ofa significant part in the story. Daisy is described as sensitive,materialistic, and she believes in everything she hears. I think thatthe fact that she is nordic is because of the popular saying thatblondes are stupid. Throughout the book we can see that as a matterof fact daisy is the image of what is alleged(a) to be a high classwomen, she is not too bright, aware(p) of her prettiness, and stylesophisticated god Im sophisticated daisy, pg 18 and thinks that theworld revolves virtually her, and she hardly does anything by herself,Daisy isnt totally in control of her own life, as she hasnt got thecourage to change What she is unhappy with, in fear of the publicopinion, With Daisy the autho... ... or emotions. Bygiving such superficial information about them the indorser gets theidea that they are foolish, and not too bright. Neither of them has a truly important employment in the plot, or is fundamental in important timesof the story. They d ont participate with ideas. Daisy is Gatsbysdream, for all he lives and she is portrayed as an unreachable jewelalmost as an object, something that does not exist, and will never bereached. Definitely women have a secondary role in the book, thestoryteller is a man, important phrases are said by a man, and Its menwho are described deeply, the whole story spins around them. In the1930s it was a common idea to think women had a secondary l role inlife, maybe F. Scott Fitzgerald had this ideology, or he was trying toreflect society as accurately as possible, and for this reason he putwomen on a second plan.
